One day after Carlos Condit edged Nick Diaz to cap off UFC 143, the UFC is looking ahead to its first trip to Japan in more than 10 years as UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar takes on Ben Henderson in the main event of UFC 144 on February 25.
Here is the latest preview video for UFC 144, which also features Quiton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Ryan Bader and Jake Shields vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama.
In case you missed last night’s UFC 143 event or want to check it out again, Fox Sports has released highlights from UFC 143, including Carlos Condit’s main event win over Nick Diaz to claim the interim UFC welterweight title and a shot at champion Georges St-Pierre as well as wins by Fabricio Werdum, Josh Koscheck, Renan Barao, and Ed Herman.
The anticipated rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen is set to take place in June in Silva’s home country of Brazil.
UFC President Dana White announced at Saturday’s UFC 143 post-fight press conference that Silva and Sonnen had verbally agreed to the matchup with an exact date and venue to be finalized soon.
Sonnen (27-11-1) kept his hopes for another shot at Silva and his title alive as he edged Michael Bisping by unanimous decision one week ago at UFC on Fox 2. The win was Sonnen’s second-straight since returning to the Octagon in October after serving suspensions for a positive drug test and guilty plea in the wake of his near upset of Silva in August 2010.
Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, Dustin Poirier, and Stephen Thompson all picked up $65,000 bonuses for their efforts at UFC 143 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Werdum and Nelson earned “Fight of the Night” honors, Dustin Poirier secured the “Submission of the Night,” and Stephen Thompson scored the “Knockout of the Night.”
Carlos Condit outpointed Nick Diaz to win the interim UFC welterweight title and earn a shot at champion Georges St-Pierre with a unanimous decision victory in the main event of UFC 143 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Condit stuck to his game plan throughout the five-round fight, as he frequently tagged Diaz with well-timed punches and kicks while constantly circling away to avoid Diaz’s patented combinations. Diaz threatened to finish Condit in the final minute as he took his back, controlled him with a body triangle, and tried for both a choke and armlock, but ran out of time before the final bell sounded.
The judges then awarded Condit the unanimous decision win by 48-47, 49-46, and 49-46 scores.
Heavyweight Fabricio Werdum picked apart Roy Nelson to earn a clear-cut unanimous decision victory in his return to the Octagon in the co-main event of UFC 43 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Josh Koscheck edged Mike Pierce for a split decision win on Saturday at UFC 143 in Las Vegas to remain in the hunt for another shot at the welterweight title.
Koscheck improves to 17-5 after winning five of his last six fights, with his only loss coming to welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, while Pierce falls to 13-5 after losing 2 of his last 3 trips to the Octagon.

Renan Barao moved closer to a shot at the bantamweight title as the once-beaten Brazilian claimed a unanimous decision over Scott Jorgensen on the UFC 143 main card in Las Vegas for his 28th-straight win overall and third in a row in the UFC.
Meanwhile, middleweight Ed Herman picked up his third-straight victory with a second-round submission of previously unbeaten Clifford Starks to kick off the UFC 143 pay-per-view.
Rising featherweight Dustin Poirier pushed his win streak to five-straight as he forced newcomer Max Holloway to submit to a mounted armbar/triangle choke combo to cap off Saturday’s UFC 143 preliminary card in Las Vegas.
Earlier on the UFC 143 prelims, Edwin Figueroa claimed a split decision over “Bruce Leroy” Alex Caceres in an exciting fight marred by a two-point deduction to Caceres for low blows, while welterweight fan-favorite Matt Brown blasted Chris Cope for a second-round knockout.
UFC 143 got underway with welterweight prospect Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson knocking out fellow newcomer Dan Stittgen in the opening round before Rafael Natal outpointed Michael Kuiper and Matt Riddle edges Henry Martinez for decision wins.
A rematch between light heavyweights Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva has been scrapped just days after it was announced for UFC on FX 3, as Vera has been injured and Silva now awaits a new opponent for the May 15 event in Fairfax, Virginia, the UFC announced Saturday.
Silva dominated Vera to earn a unanimous decision in their first meeting 13 months ago at UFC 125, but Silva was suspended one year for faking his drug test, causing the win to be overturned and Vera to be invited back to the UFC.
The only fight now booked for UFC on FX 3 is a middleweight bout between Jason MacDonald and Tom Lawlor.
